I am so lucky to do what I do. I love music. I love teaching. I love being creative. It's been long road to get to "here"... more my state of mind than any one place. But I guess this is where people put their life tidbits, schooling and other influences to help define themelves so here it is.
I'm a southern alberta girl from a farm north of Picture Butte called Porkka's Corner. My family moved to Lethbridge when I was 8 but I continued to have the best of city and farm life for many years. I was drawn into music by my older cousins and sisters. After years of band programs, band trips and band camps, I graduated from high school with no idea what to do except for music. So I attended the University of Lethbridge took music and various other sorts of things like drama and art but then decided I needed more.... so I was Edmonton bound. I attended Grant MacEwan's music program and studied with Raymond Baril, Kent Sangster and the late and loveable Rick Garn. I decided to travel farther and study with Greg Carter at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. After being totally burnt out after school. I quit playing.....but started singing. After several years of "hmmm, do I do music, do I not do music.....it loves me, it loves me not" I've decided it's love and here I am saxophone and all.
Now I'm givin' it full on. I'm working on writing and recording with several projects. Snippits from each project will eventually be heard on the website. I teach private lessons part-time at GMCC Out Reach Program and out of my own home studio. I play around town as much as I can. I try to organize workshops for various musical needs of students. Please check out upcoming workshops on the website.
During my musical hiatus, I also received certification as a wholistic health practitioner. I have focused my wholistic studies on Sound, Breath and Body awareness utilizing various techniques that are helpful for students and anyone else wishing to learn ways to release tension, rejuvinate and become more in tune with themselves. Workshops and classes are posted on the website.
I am so grateful to all the musicians in the Edmonton Community that have helped inspire me with their positivity and musical gifts. In no particular order - Mo Lefever, Jamie Philp, Thom Golub, Thom Bennett, Rhonda Withnell, Anna Beaumont, Peter Belec, Bob Tildesley, Kevin Parkinson, Dwayne Hrynkiw, Brett Miles, Gord Graber, JC Jones, Troy Nowaselski, Amber Suki, Mark Klemm, Bill Richards, Don Ehret and there's more I know and I will add you as I remember.
