You are invited to travel the world through song. Karen Porkka directs these beautiful singing souls sharing the beauty, wisdom and playfulness of songs from around the world. This concerts features Edmonton's Le Fuzz. This is a fundraising concert in collaboration with Changing Together - A Centre for Immigrant Women and the Soul Song Circle Singer Scholarship Fund. The Soul Song Circle Singers are part of the Ubuntu Choirs Network. We believe it is our birthright to sing and to be involved in the community. We will be having a draw and selling Ubuntu Bracelets to support a community in South Africa. So bring a little extra $$ if you feel so inclined to support us further. We look forward to singing for and with you!

CONTINENTAL CONNECTION - Singing Songs that Unite Us Please join the Soul Song Circle Singers directed by Karen Porkka for an afternoon of songs from Canada, Namibia and inspired stops along the way. Featuring special guest Namibian Singer/Songwriter GARTH PRINCE plus percussionist Dwayne Hyrnkiw, guitarist George Koufogiannakis and bassist Keith Rempel. This is a Fund-raising event for Changing Together - a Centre for Immigrant Women and for the Soul Song Circle Singer Scholarship Fund. There will be a special draw for Changing Together with prizes including free registration to come sing with the Soul Song Circle Singers. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

Karen Porkka brings all that she loves about creating music into a solo performance called PorkkaLoops. Layering together voice, keyboard, saxophone, melodica and with the help of loopers and electronics she showcases her original and spontaneous compositions as well as putting twists on familiar and not so familiar standards. Karen pulls together musical and improvisational influences from around the world to reveal a richly textured, captivating form of sonic exploration and storytelling. A Vocal Improv workshop that invites more experienced voices who have solid foundations in vocal technique, singing harmonies, rhythms and singing parts independently. We will “branch out” into other areas, like complex harmony, odd time signatures, soloing, chord changes and performance structures while deepening the roots of generous and compassionate singing in community.

This workshop is ideal for those who love to sing, to play vocally and are wanting to find new ways of expressing themselves. We will be exploring the building blocks of making music (melody, harmony and rhythm) while cultivating skills of Compassion and Generosity by listening deeply to ourselves and others.
